Private lessons

Private lessons provide one-on-one attention and pacing to exactly suit the rider, on our quiet school ponies or your own horse.

On a school horse:
Our 30-minute lessons are best suited to younger children, unfit riders or those wanting a short taster lesson. The longer lessons are more suitable for those with some level of fitness and focus. Riders should attend 15 minutes before and after their booked lesson time to groom and tack up/untack. Portions of the lesson may include work on the lunge line as needed.

  • 30 minutes riding (60 minutes total); $72

  • 45 minutes riding (75 minutes total); $95

On your own horse:
Riders should be ready to ride and warming up by the start of their lesson time. It is expected that riders are able to tack themselves up (or that their parent will assist them to do so).

  • 45 min riding; $54

Casual vs term bookings

Casual (one-off) bookings can be made online at any time.

Riders with a weekly lesson time will be booked for that time for the whole term, and invoiced with a discount of 10% (if paying in full) or 5% (if paying in two halves). If you know you will be away one week, you can cancel your lesson in advance (48 hours) and receive a credit to rebook a make-up lesson.

Semi-private lessons

Semi-private lessons are for two riders, allowing siblings or friends to learn to ride together. These lessons can be either 30 or 45 minutes of riding, plus 15 minutes tack up/untack before and after the booked time.

On a school horse:

  • 30 minutes: $56 per rider

  • 45 minutes: $65 per rider

On your own horse:

  • 45 minutes: $42 per rider

Casual vs term bookings

Casual (one-off) bookings can be made online at any time.

Riders with a weekly semi-private lesson time will be booked for that time for the whole term, and each family invoiced with a discount of 10% (if paying in full) or 5% (if paying in two halves). If one rider has a planned absence, you can cancel the whole lesson in advance (>48 hours) and receive a credit to rebook a make-up lesson. The remaining rider may like to have a private lesson instead during their regular time slot.

Group lessons

We hold weekly group lessons during each school term. Group lessons are 60 minutes of riding, with 30 minutes before and after your booked time for riders to learn to brush, tack up, untack and care for their horse (so 2 hours total).

  • On a school horse: $540 per 10 week term (including a 10% paid-on-time discount; term fees are due by the second week of term)

  • On your own horse: $364.50 per 10 week term (including a 10% paid-on-time discount)

Group lessons go ahead no matter the weather - when it is too wet/windy to ride, unmounted horse management lessons are given. We aim to produce well-rounded riders who take pride in the care of their horse and tack and who understand the responsibilities of having a horse.

Wanting to join a group? Riders new to EVRS, including those who have ridden before, are required to take at least one private lesson for assessment purposes and need to be able to walk and trot capably, and nearly ready to learn to canter, before they can joining a term group. Beginning riders should expect to take a term or two of private lessons initially - this one-on-one time is an important foundational period in a rider's education that sets them up well for the rest of their riding career.

Pony rides

For riders 3-6 years, our short lead-rein rides are perfect for introducing young children to the joys of ponies in a safe and relaxing way within the limits of their attention span. Children will help groom and tack up while learning basic safety rules, then ride on the lead - sometimes in the arena, sometimes around the farm. Basic instruction is given but the focus is on enjoying the pony and building confidence.

Pony rides can be shared between two children (i.e. at the same time); a parent or adult will be needed to lead the second pony (instruction given).

Please note that the maximum rider weight for pony rides is 22kg, so this will not suit all 6yos. This is for the welfare and longevity of our small ponies

30 minute pony ride

  • One child: $37

  • Two children: $59 ($29.50 each)

45 minute pony ride

  • One child: $55

  • Two children: $88 ($44 each)

There is no additional tack up time before/after the lesson like for private and group lessons; please arrive just before your booked time.
