LessonsPrivate lessons
Private lessons provide one-on-one attention and pacing to exactly suit the rider, on our quiet school ponies or your own horse. On a school horse: Our 30-minute lessons are best suited to younger children, unfit riders or those wanting a short taster lesson. The longer lessons are more suitable for those with some level of fitness and focus. Riders should attend 15 minutes before and after their actual lesson time to groom and tacking up. Portions of the lesson may include work on the lunge line as needed.
On your own horse: Riders should be ready to ride and warming up by the start of their lesson time. It is expected that riders are able to tack themselves up (or that their parent will assist them to do so).
Riders new to EVRS and wanting to join group lessons are required to take at least one private lesson for assessment purposes and be able to walk and trot confidently on their own before joining a regular group. Beginning riders should expect to take a term or two of private lessons initially - this one-on-one time is an important foundational period in a rider's education that sets them up well for the rest of their riding career. Semi-private lessons
Semi-private lessons are for two riders, allowing siblings or friends to learn to ride together. 75 minutes duration including grooming and tacking up.
Group lessons
We hold regular group lessons (approx 4 riders) during each school term. The first and last 30 minutes of each lesson allow riders to learn to brush, tack up, untack and care for their horse.
Group lessons go ahead no matter the weather - when it is too poor to ride, unmounted horse management lessons are given. We aim to produce well-rounded riders who take pride in the care of their horse and tack and who understand the responsibilities of having a horse. Lead-rein rides
For riders 3-6 years, our short lead-rein rides are perfect for introducing young children to the joys of ponies in a safe and relaxing way within the limits of their attention span.
